Discover How Instagram & Twitter Can Get You Noticed – Free Presentation August 13th
On August 13th, 2015, I’ll be giving a short presentation at the Six Figure Sales Meetup Group in Raleigh. I’ll be discussing how I use Instagram and Twitter to get the attention of big (and small) brands and not just those in the photography industry.
Instagram
OK, your default response may be something like, “Instagram is about images and you are a photographer.” If that’s the way you are thinking, I’ll put that to rest by saying the first image that I posted on Instagram that got a response from Canon USA was an iPhone image of my Canon camera on a tripod. Yes, it was Canon gear, but NO, it was not a professional image. Also, that image is still my most liked image on Instagram as of this post and it’s an iPhone image not a professional image.
Twitter
Tweets are restricted to 144 characters on Twitter. So how do you get the attention of big brands in 144 characters? Two quick ways are post how good they are or post how bad they are. Most big brands pay attention to what is being said about them on Twitter.
I posted this on Twitter to a national restaurant brand: @________ waitress was fantastic in Raleigh NC but you need a far better system of seating a party of 12 … So Sad!!!! — They responded: @David_Williams_ we are sorry to hear about your experience. Please DM us your contact information so we can make this right. — The Tweet would have never been posted had the staff handled things right from the beginning. FYI, the brand now follows me on Twitter. By the way, most of my examples are not negative, this is just one example of getting in front of a big brand that’s not so positive, but it did lead to a resolution of my problem and to the brand following me.
The opposite of the above is a Tweet that I did to Canon about how great their phone support is. Canon Tweeted back to me: “@David_Williams_ YOU rock, David! Thanks for being such a great member of #TeamCanon. We’ll pass your fantastic feedback along!”
Social Signals
It’s no secret that social signals play a role in your online presence by helping to build your personal brand, your audience and even getting you some love from Google’s algorithm. With that said, is there more value in having 10,000 twitter followers that you paid $29 for or having a small amount of credible individuals and even brands follow you? The same comparison can be made to Instagram. So don’t get caught up in the numbers, but focus more on the quality of those you interact with in social media and the credibility of those who follow you.
